Do the digital video recorder machines come with cameras? No, the cameras are not included. This is because any type of camera can be used with the DVR, and we have no way of knowing what kind of camera you want. Therefore, cameras are charged separately. The cameras page describes for you all the different camera options. Can I use different frame rates for each camera? If I have a camera that is "more important", can I make the DVR more devoted to it? Yes! You can configure: Frame rate, compression, motion detection, scheduling, and many other parameters on a camera-by-camera basis. Can I review video for the past history of an employee that I think might be a bad employee? Yes, if the video you want to see is within the amount of time that the DVR can record. For example, if your DVR stores the last 10 days, you can see everything they did in the last 10 days. If your DVR stores 30 days, then you can see everything they did in the last 30 days. Can I get audio surveillance? Yes, as long as you are not using covert cameras. If you are using covert (hidden) cameras, then, it is illegal. It is illegal under federal law to combine covert video and audio surveillance without a class 3 law enforcement license. It is possible for you to add audio to the system after we've installed it. If you do that, you assume legal responsibility. What about those X10 camera ads that pop up on my computer all the time? What about them? You don't have to buy cameras from us. But we must point out, cameras are relatively cheap, from us or anybody else. It makes no sense to get the cheapest possible camera from X10 or anybody and be disappointed because it doesn't meet your needs. Those cameras are great as webcams to plug into your computer. They are not the solid, "industrial strength" cameras we install that are designed for reliable 24/7 operation, and they typically don't support the high-resolution viewing that our cameras have. High resolution is important -- you need it to be able to identify exactly who you are watching. Plus we can support all the options that we discuss on our cameras page -- different focal lengths, viewing angles, auto-iris, and so on. Another thing to consider is support. When you get your system installed by us, we also include 1 year of support and maintenance. Can I get a DVR for my home? Yes! Although we discuss the benefits of DVR's for business on this website, they are great for home use as well -- especially if you want an "industrial strength" system designed for 24/7 business use. Do you have valuables that you keep in your home, such as jewelry, rare collections, home theater systems, or you have expensive motorbikes or cars in your garage, or other valuables? Think about what you have and what it's worth to you to protect it. You may decide that it is completely worthwhile to install a solid, industrial strength video security system to keep watch over your valuable posessions. In addition, if you have newborn babies or young children, you can use video security and a DVR to keep watch on people that you bring into your home to take care of them. Buying a DVR is a great way to keep your newborns and small children safe and secure. You can also buy a DVR and cameras to watch over the people who take care of your mom and dad, grandparents, or other elderly people. Often the close relatives of elderly people don't know when they are not being cared for properly, and wish they could see what is going on. With video cameras and a DVR with remote viewing, you can see what is going on -- literally. Can I back up my video to DVD? Yes, but you have to request it. By default, you will get a system that can back up video to CD-ROMs (CD-ROM drive included), hard drives, and anything that can "imitate" a hard drive, such as Magneto-Optical (MO) drives, ZIP drives, and Jaz drives. Ask for a DVD drive and we'll put it in the DVR as part of the assembly. Can you handle car washes and other harsh camera environments? Yes -- the cameras will cost more. We can get special "ultra-rugged" waterproof cameras designed for extreme environments. Can I buy the DVR and do the installation myself? Yes you can. However, although installing the system by yourself is not especially difficult, there are important details that you will probably not think of. For example, the coaxial cable that is used to transmit the video signal has a minimum degree that it can be bent, to go around a corner for example. If the cable is bent too much, its electrical properties will be altered, causing the signal to degrade. In addition, the electrical impedance is changed, which will affect all the other devices that are in the daisy chain. Expert installers take these factors into account when installing. Terminating the coaxial cables requires special tools that you probably don't have. This is why it is best to ask experts like us to install your cameras. If you want to do the installation yourself, only the DVR itself will be warranted, not your installation work. If we do the installation work, we also give you a 1-year warranty. With the 1-year warranty, you know if there is any problem, you just call us and we fix it at our expense. Of course, this is a strong motivation for us to install everything right and give you a high quality system in the first place, a system that "just works." Why should I buy a DVR from you -- instead of just picking one up at an electronics superstore? Of course, you don't have to buy a DVR from us. You should only buy a DVR from us if you want a high quality, reliable, easy to use system, complete with all the features described on this website. Our systems are not the cheapest, or the most expensive on the market. We are in the middle. You should only buy from us if you are looking for the best balance of a good price and a reliable and effective system. Of course we expect you'll also consider that you shouldn't buy our installation service. You should use us for installation only if you want us to come and look at your site, and use our expertise to determine how your cameras should be installed and how your cameras and DVR can best work together to give you greater control over your business and make you more safe and secure. If you decide not to buy from us, you also won't get our 1-year of service and support. |
